What the volunteers who run common-lisp.net are building and keeping up.

Fresh container images of the Lisp implementations

common-lisp.net builds and publishes container images of the Common Lisp implementations, under clfoundation on Docker Hub. They are what the site's own CI runs on, and they are for anyone who wants a known-good Lisp in a container: to try an implementation, to test a library on all of them, or as the base of an application image.

In September 2026 every one of them was rebuilt on the current release of its implementation and on current Debian.

Clozure CL on arm64, for the first time

CCL's port to 64-bit ARM Linux was merged into its development branch on 2 September 2026 and has no release yet. The 1.13.1-rc images are built from that branch, for both amd64 and arm64, so that anyone with an ARM machine can try it today. It is experimental: please report what breaks to the CCL project.

docker run --rm -it clfoundation/ccl:1.13.1-rc-trixie

Built natively, on both architectures

The SBCL images, and CCL's release candidates, are built on real amd64 and arm64 machines, not under emulation, and published as multi-architecture tags: the same tag runs on a laptop with an ARM processor and on an x86 server. The images come on Debian (full and slim), some on Alpine as well, and the full ones carry a script that installs Quicklisp.

docker run --rm -it clfoundation/sbcl

The sources of the images are in the cl-docker-images group on gitlab.common-lisp.net, one repository per implementation; that is also where to report a problem with an image. To use them in your own project's CI, see Using GitLab CI to test CL projects.

The standing work

Running common-lisp.net. A GitLab instance kept on current releases, with CI runners; the mailing lists; the project sites at common-lisp.dev; and the backups behind all of it. In 2025 everything moved to a new server. A proof-of-work gate now stands in front of GitLab and the list archives, so that the swarms of crawlers that were taking the services down no longer can.

Hosting Lisp projects. Free hosting for open source Common Lisp projects, as since 2003: several hundred public repositories, among them ASDF, Alexandria, CMUCL and Iterate.

Paying for what it runs. common-lisp.net means to pay for its servers through the services it runs on them: custom images, whose agent and builds draw on a community pot that anyone can top up. A gift to the general fund is welcome too. The appreciation fundraisers once run for projects such as ASDF and ABCL are paused.

Keeping the commons. Stewardship of the community's domain names, common-lisp.net and cliki.net among them, and hosting for CLiki, the Common Lisp wiki.

This site. The pages you are reading are a Common Lisp program: one page tree in one Lisp image, its source open to merge requests like any other project here.

Who does it. Volunteers, every one of them unpaid. Who they are, and the non-profit that holds the site, are on About.
